Supporting performing artists’ high-level training from a new perspective

The Institute for Psychobiology of Performing Arts is located in the city of Zurich, Switzerland, at the heart of central Europe.

ipbpa targets the complex demands and challenges that performing artists encounter in their daily work. This calls for all possible support in a wide spectrum of bodily and psychological aspects, which are specific to personal performance practices.

Performing is a difficult task and empirical evidence shows that intensifying training practices is the most common strategy used in an attempt to succeed.

To create new training alternatives, at ipbpa there is a strong focus on the tools and means necessary to achieve performance goals. ipbpa deploys resources and combines knowledge and reasoning from the natural sciences with traditional practices of performing artists in order to restore, enhance, and optimize performance.

A fundamental goal at ipbpa is to give a well-grounded and planned foundation to accomplish the highest performance standards in order to avoid exaggerated training regimes.

At ipbpa you can ask for and count on a long-standing and first-hand experience on:

  • Individual treatment that considers psychobiological aspects encountered in the performing arts.
  • Behavioural- medication-free treatment of focal dystonia in musicians.
  • Creating links to leading Swiss experts in the field of medical care (if necessary).
  • Privacy and personalised treatment of professional performing artists.
  • Seminars and talks for institutions to all topics related to the learning practices and problems of performing artists.
